Hello there,
I’m Pengc Li, the founder of *棠tang* and a traditional hand-carved wood artist from China. While this is technically a blog post, I’d rather write it as a letter—a personal note to each of you who has supported my handmade creations.
Wood has always been my medium for connecting with life. As a child, I spent countless hours in my father’s workshop, crafting tables, chairs, and everyday objects using traditional mortise and tenon techniques. Those moments shaped my love for working with wood, and after graduating from university, I naturally gravitated toward hand-carving.
One of my most profound projects has been carving the essence of the sea. It took me five years to perfect a single piece that truly captures the ocean’s spirit. Through various carving techniques, I’ve tried to recreate the raw, untamed beauty of the sea—its waves, its depth, and even its sound. I like to think that when you place one of my pieces by your bedside, you might just hear the gentle whisper of the ocean.
I’m incredibly grateful to have found my first group of supporters in China. Their love for my work and their encouragement have given me the confidence to keep carving, to keep exploring, and to keep sharing my art with the world.
Lately, I’ve been experimenting with new ways to integrate my pieces into everyday life. If you, like me, are drawn to the sea, my carvings can find a home in your entryway, living room, bedroom, or even by your bedside. They also make thoughtful gifts—imagine wrapping a piece of the ocean in parchment paper, tied with a simple string. There’s something timeless and poetic about it, don’t you think?
If you share a passion for hand-carved wood or simply want to connect, I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to reach out via email anytime.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me.
Warm regards,
Pengc Li
